Lecture 1: Updates on mitral valve disease – what, when, why
Presented by Joao Neves, Clinician in Veterinary Cardiology
Mitral valve disease is the most common acquired heart disease in dogs. With this presentation we will discuss all the relevant clinical aspects in the management of patients with mitral valve disease, from the pre-clinical phase to the development of congestive heart failure. We will also briefly discuss the new therapeutic approaches that are now available.
Lecture 2: The Great Pretenders – when cardiac disease is not cardiac disease
Presented by Brigite Pedro, RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology and European Specialist in Small Animal Cardiology
With this presentation we will briefly review some extra-cardiac conditions that can affect the cardiovascular system (from changes in blood pressure, to arrhythmias and even echocardiographic changes). We will also discuss when it is important to treat the cardiovascular clinical signs or when it is appropriate to wait and address the primary problem instead.
