Shock – a short word often associated with death. Early recognition of a patient in shock, the type of shock and its specific treatment are essential to maximise the chances the patient has to survive this condition. Is this patient tachycardic because he has cardiogenic shock or because he is septic? Will a bolus of fluid help him or tip him over the edge? Does this patient require analgesia? Does he require surgery? If so, when is the best time to take this patient to theatre?
Different types of shock will be discussed together with the best treatment options and by the end of the day the delegates will be able to treat these patients in line with the latest recommendations.
