Our Out of Hours Team

Willows is proud to provide out of hours Specialist referrals 24 hours a day, 7 days a week 365 days a year. With a Specialist Veterinary Surgeon available round the clock across every discipline we are on hand should your own out of hours vet feel that it is necessary to refer your pet for emergency Specialist care and treatment.

Our team of Out of Hours Vets have extensive experience in veterinary medicine with access to onsite state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging and our team of Specialist Vets in whispering distance should a more complex condition occur.

Francisco Leao De Sa Coelho

Emergency Veterinary Surgeon

Francisco graduated from the University of Lisbon in 2021. In his final year he completed a traineeship in a Neurology referral centre in Portugal, writing his final master’s degree thesis about Canine Meningioma. Soon after graduating, he started to work in a Small Animal Practice in Rugby whilst completing a two-year graduate programme before starting a rotating internship at Willows.

Francisco has a particular interest in Neurology and is keen to undertake further training in the future to become a Specialist in this area.

Outside of work Francisco likes to cook and spend time with his cat, Saramago, who he plays fetch with. Francisco is also a sports enthusiast and enjoys playing tennis and padel with his friends.

Emergency Veterinary Surgeon

Sophie graduated from University of Nottingham in 2021 before starting work in a local practice in Birmingham as a General Practitioner. During this time she found herself drawn to Emergency and Critical Care work, particularly medical emergencies and after 2 years is ready to embark on a new adventure here at Willows!

Sophie’s outside interests include running, hiking and travel. She has recently backpacked Australia and New Zealand before starting at Willows but was very happy to return home to her little cat, Stanley.

Emily Phillips

Emergency Veterinary Surgeon

Emily graduated from University of Pretoria in South Africa with a bachelor of Veterinary Sciences in 2019. Following graduation, she worked in South Africa in mixed rural practice for one year before moving to the UK. Emily then worked in a first opinion general practice before moving to night work.  

Emily is particularly interested in Emergency and Critical Care, but is looking forward to learning from the multidisciplinary teams at Willows.

Emily enjoys all things outdoors and will hike anywhere for a good view. Otherwise she likes to spend time at home with her two cats, Theo and Lily.

Devon Michael

Emergency Veterinary Surgeon

Devon graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 2019 and worked in a rural mixed animal clinic before moving to the UK in 2021. Devon has previous experience working in equine care, but opted to focus on small animals and joined Willows Intern team in 2024.

Devon is particularly interested in small animal surgery, particularly laparoscopic surgery, and is passionate about antimicrobial stewardship, ensuring the effectiveness of antibiotics in the future.

Outside of work Devon enjoys rock climbing, camping, has completed two 70.3 Ironman races and hopes to complete a full Ironman in the future. He also has a 1 year old Staffy/Lab cross rescue named Finley, who has taken over his life!
