New hips for Freddie

17 January 2018

Freddie, an 8 month old golden retriever, was struggling to get up from his bed and was showing signs of limping on his back legs. X-rays showed severe hip dysplasia, with both hips almost dislocated from their sockets. Freddie was referred to Willows and seen by orthopaedic Specialist Toby Gemmill.

Freddie was initially treated with painkillers and physiotherapy, however he remained lame, particularly on the left hip. A left total hip replacement was performed in January 2017. Freddie made a good recovery from this but right hindlimb lameness persisted and a right hip replacement was performed in October 2017. Freddie has subsequently made excellent progress and is now back to running around the fields again with no sign of a limp.

Freddie’s owners said “We cannot praise Willows highly enough, although we only met Toby and none of the rest of the team, it is obvious that the professionalism, compassion and care is inherent across the team.

Freddie is so pleased to be out of pain for the first time in his 21 months and is enjoying playing with his friends again - oh and getting covered in mud! - he is taking it slowly at the moment but he will soon be up to hyper speed I am sure.

Here he is on his first day running free - this was before he found the mud!
