Toby's Eye Watering Story
14 October 2018
Toby is a lovely young cat that was referred earlier in the year to Willows’ Ophthalmology team. Toby had been suffering with a lot of discomfort in his left eye.
On examination by the Ophthalmology team, Toby was found to have severe inflammation around his eye, discharge and a deep central ulcer of his eye. Unfortunately this condition required corneal surgery which, as you can imagine, is a very delicate and specialised procedure.
Under general anaesthesia and with the aid of the operating microscope, Toby underwent the surgery. A disc of VetBioSIS (a biomaterial formed of collagen from pig small intestinal submucosa) was used to repair the deep corneal defect.
We are very pleased to report that two months after surgery, Toby’s cornea has continued to recover very well with minimal scarring present at his last post-operative check and good vision.
