With advances in modern technology, there is now more access for general practitioners to so-called ‘advanced imaging’ than ever before. The growth of the veterinary computed tomography (CT) industry has been rapid and to a certain extent, has outstripped knowledge as to which of our patients may benefit from a CT examination. There is a great temptation to consider the ‘full body’ CT in those patients where the differential diagnosis list is extremely long, or the clinical presentation is somewhat vague.
This evening lecture presentation is designed to help those practitioners who are interested in what CT is capable of. The presentation will give multiple examples of where CT has been very beneficial over radiology and ultrasound, and also indicate which cases would be better going for an MRI examination, rather than CT. It will demonstrate where CT has not been a useful modality, and will also give a brief discussion of the principles of CT in order to give a good basis on which to teach the advantages of CT over other imaging modalities.
