NEW Cardiology Service at Willows

13 October 2015

We are delighted to announce that Mike Martin MVB DVC MRCVS RCVS Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology and Chris Linney BVSc GPCertSAP CertAVP(VC) MRCVS Veterinary Cardiology Clinician have joined the Willows team to offer our patients a Specialist-run Cardiology Service.

Mike Martin - Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology and Chris Linney - Veterinary Cardiology Clinician of Willows' Cardiology Service

Mike and Chris are delighted to be part of the Specialist team at Willows, where we provide a multi-disciplinary approach and the highest standards of support and care for our patients, owners and referring veterinary surgeons. Mike is interested in all aspects of cardiology and has published over 40 scientific peer reviewed papers on the subject. Chris has a keen interest in congenital heart disease and performing cardiac catheterisation procedures for the correction of heart defects.

The correct diagnosis of heart or lung disease is every bit as important as its subsequent treatment. If the diagnosis is inaccurate, the 'treatment' won't work. The cardiology team specialise in the diagnosis of difficult and complicated cardiac and respiratory problems. The symptoms of coughing, breathing difficulties or fatigue on exercise, can all be attributed to either a heart or a lung disease. For this, nothing counts more than our clinician's in-depth experience and knowledge. However, we also benefit from leading state-of-the-art diagnostic equipment that helps us to diagnose heart and lung problems, but more importantly we have the skill and experience to use all this equipment appropriately and the knowledge to interpret the findings.

We continue to strengthen the multidisciplinary specialist services offered by Willows, enabling us to further enhance our ability to offer specialist level investigation and treatment for pets, whatever their problem may be.

The cardiology team at Willows is fully supported by other Specialists in our state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging facility (with in-house MRI and CT scanning), and Specialists working in our anaesthesia, internal medicine and soft tissue surgery teams. Our highly trained support staff provide superb levels of nursing care for all our patients, including those referred for cardiac and respiratory problems. Cardiology cases frequently require intensive veterinary and nursing care, and our dedicated Intensive Care Unit is equipped to the highest levels, enabling us to optimise the management of such high-dependency cases.
