Go Nuts for Red Squirrel Week

26 September 2015

Go Nuts for Red Squirrel Week

Go Nuts for Red Squirrel Week is taking place from Saturday 28 September to Sunday 4 October.

Red Squirrels are only found in certain areas of the UK, which is why The Wildlife Trusts are working to protect them - and encouraging you to help too. Once common, the red squirrel population has fallen from around 3.5 million, to around 120,000, of which 75% or more are in Scotland.

Red squirrels continue to be in serious decline due to disease, the loss and fragmentation of woodland habitat and competition from the more robust grey squirrel. There are only a handful of refuges left for red squirrels in the UK.

Visit The Wildlife Trusts to learn more about Red Squirrels and the conservation efforts to save them.
