May is National Walking Month – so get your boots on, get your dog and head off into the big outdoors. The days are getting longer, the weather should be getting better (despite the snow showers!), so follow your favourite route, or go exploring for new walks – you never know what you’ll find.
Exercise is vital to your dog’s health and well-being – it keeps them fit, helps with any weight issues, is beneficial to their digestive system, may reduce or eliminate any bad habits such as chewing or digging, lets them use up extra energy and will also strengthen the bond you have with them.
Add your own health benefits to this, such as strengthening your heart, lowering your risk of disease, improving your Vitamin D levels, aiding in weight control (the list of benefits is endless) – it really is worthwhile – and it costs nothing too!
Research shows that we should all aim to walk 10,000 steps each day – try using a pedometer or a fitness tracker to see how close you are to achieving this. And don’t forget to post photos of you and your dog in action on our Facebook page – we love seeing them.
