An Unusual Birthday Present for Stephen!
9 October 2016
For most of us who are still counting, when a birthday rolls around, it usually involves spending time with friends and family in celebration (or perhaps commiseration) of another year passed. Relaxation and enjoyment, with the occasional gift of course, is the usual order of the day.
However, one of our Specialists, Dr Stephen Baines, decided that this approach was far too sedentary and to celebrate the beginning of a new decade (his actual age is undisclosed), his goal was to race as many kilometres as he was years old at the local Birmingham Running, Athletics and Triathlon (BRAT) Club Annual Triathlon. Given that an Olympic Triathlon distance comprises a 1.5km swim, 40km cycle time trial and 10km run, we can make a good guess at his age!
Stephen acquitted himself well in the swim, coming 2nd in his age group, and the top 5% overall out of 140, which includes people considerably younger than him! Happy Birthday Stephen – we can’t wait to find out what your next challenge will be.
