Chica and Saree break a Guinness World Record
1 July 2015
On Sunday 7th June, thousands of dogs and their owners arrived in South Tyneside, on the North Sea coast, in an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest ever dog walk.
We are extremely proud that one of our very own Willows vets, Anna Bryla, took part, along with her dogs Chica (Akita) and Saree (an Afghan Hound), in this event, which has been running since 1990.
This year, for the 25th anniversary, organisers were hoping to gather 25,000 dogs, which would break last year’s record of 24,542. AND THEY DID IT - an incredible 26,423 dogs took part in the walk this year, smashing the target, and setting a new Guinness World Record.
Dogs and their owners not only printed their names in an historical event but they also enjoyed a fantastic day out. Sunny weather and magnificent views made the 3.5 mile (5.6km) walk even more enjoyable.
The next Great North Dog Walk will take place on Sunday 5th of June 2016 so make a note in your diary and take your dogs along to help keep/beat this fantastic World Record (Texas, USA has tried to take it away from the UK a few times in recent years).
Well done to all who took part.
