Mental Health Awareness Week 14-20 May

Mental Health Awareness Week 14-20 May

Mental Health Awareness week is hosted by the Mental Health Foundation, and the theme this year is to raise awareness around stress, which is found to be a trigger for mental health problems. At Willows we take our team’s mental and physical health very seriously and offer as much support as possible.

Our wellbeing programme has recently been introduced and consists of quarterly events, where we have a nurse come into the practice to give mini health checks, therapists to give massages and professional workshops which can focus on subjects such as sleeping well, positive thinking and thought control.

The programme was developed after consulting colleagues about the kind of activities that would enhance their health and wellbeing.

With a national focus on Mental Health Awareness Week, which runs until Sunday 20 May, around 80 Willows employees took advantage of massages, mini health checks and mental fitness and healthy living workshops.

We are now making plans to run another two wellbeing events in the second half of the year. Like many trades, the veterinary industry can be a stressful place and, after consulting with our team about what sort of activities they would appreciate, we are proactively putting steps in place to provide suitable support. We have also introduced an outdoor breakout space for staff to enjoy fresh air in a safe, friendly environment.
