Sticky Situation for Barney!

2 May 2018

Sticky Situation for Barney!

Barney the Bearded Collie was away on holiday with his family when unfortunately a game of fetch went wrong! The stick Barney was playing with got stuck in his throat, and although his owners managed to free the stick, it pulled with it a piece of tissue from his mouth and he started choking.

Barney’s owners drove him straight to Willows, where he was examined by primary care vet Georgina. Due to the nature and location of the injury, Barney needed to be sedated for a more thorough examination of the back of his throat. This revealed that the piece of tissue on the end of the stick was in fact his tonsil! An x-ray was taken to make sure the stick had not penetrated deeper into the tissues of his neck and once we were happy all was well, the resulting pocket was flushed to remove any fragments. Barney felt much better after some painkillers and now knows to steer clear of sticks in future!
