Tilly Cardio Pet of the Week

15 February 2018

Tilly Cardio Pet of the Week

Meet Tilly, the 3 month old Sheltipoo, who travelled from Redcar, North Yorkshire to see our cardiology Specialist Chris Linney for surgery to correct a congenital heart defect called a patent ductus arteriosus (PDA).

Even at this young age, Tilly was at risk of heart failure and about half of the dogs with this condition, if left uncorrected, would die before their first birthday. The good news is surgery is almost always curative!

Willows Veterinary Centre & Referral Service is a centre of excellence for minimally invasive (keyhole) procedures. As one of the most experienced cardiology teams performing these keyhole procedures in the World, Tilly was in good hands.

The red arrow points to the ACDO plug that sits just above the heart and closes the PDA.

We were able to cure Tilly’s condition, meaning her outlook is back to being bright and happy. Here she is enjoying her reunion with her owner. From the cardiology team and everyone here at Willows, we wish you a speedy recovery!
