Residency Training Programme in Small Animal Surgery
Applications from highly motivated and ambitious colleagues are invited to undertake a Residency Training Programme in Small Animal Surgery, to start in July 2019.
Willows Referral Services is a busy, specialist multi-disciplinary small animal referral hospital in the West Midlands. Our philosophy is to provide the best possible levels of care for clients, their pets and for referring veterinary surgeons. We have an excellent team of support staff who give our clinicians the opportunity to concentrate on their clinical caseload and to work in a pleasant, supportive and good humoured atmosphere. Willows holds the Investors in People Award at Silver level.
The successful applicant will work alongside four soft tissue surgery specialists and five orthopaedic surgery specialists, supported by colleagues in neurology, ophthalmology, internal medicine, oncology, cardiology, dermatology, emergency and critical care, anaesthesia and diagnostic imaging. In-patient care is a priority and includes 24 hour veterinary and nursing cover, with support from a team of interns. Diagnostic and surgical facilities are second to none and include GE 16 slice CT, 1.5T MRI, in-theatre mobile image intensifier, two digital X-ray rooms (each with Fuji CR), ultrasonography, video endoscopy and an extensive range of other advanced surgical equipment.
The residency is an ECVS Approved Training Programme and the successful candidate will work towards achieving the Diploma of the European College of Veterinary Surgeons. The residency programme will comprise clinical training in small animal surgery, experience and training in other relevant small animal disciplines, clinical research, and access to informal and formal teaching. Where necessary externships will be arranged in order to satisfy ECVS Diploma training requirements. CPD both in the UK and abroad is encouraged and funded.
The residency programme will be for a period of three years. Progress will be reviewed after 3 and 6 months and then every 6 months thereafter. All applicants should have spent at least two years in clinical veterinary practice and completed a small animal rotating internship. Good communication skills and high standards of patient care are essential. Preference will be given to applicants with a Certificate in Surgery or an equivalent postgraduate qualification. Candidates must be registered, or eligible to register, with the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons.
The position will be well remunerated and the package includes four weeks annual leave plus public holidays, generous time off and funding for CPD and study, plus a company pension scheme. Membership fees for RCVS, VDS and one other professional body will be paid. To learn more about Willows, please visit www.willows.uk.net and follow the links to the Veterinary Professionals section.
Willows is centrally located within easy reach of Birmingham, Birmingham Airport, London and the National Rail and motorway networks, but only a short drive away from historic Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwick and the beautiful Warwickshire countryside.
Informal enquiries should be directed to the Programme Director, Dr Stephen J Baines, on [email protected].
The closing date for applications is Friday 1st March 2019.
