Pain management

All patients undergoing surgery at Willows benefit from a multi-modal approach to their pain management.
Techniques used include:

  • Epidural injections and catheter placement
  • Local anaesthetic blocks
  • Continuous rate infusions
  • Acupuncture

The Anaesthesia team is closely involved in the analgesia of all hospitalised patients and available for telephone advice for referring veterinary surgeons.

  • Assessment, stabilisation and anaesthesia of trauma, neurological and medical patients
  • Anaesthetic protocol tailored to the individual patient
  • Advanced monitoring including:
    • Invasive arterial blood pressure
    • Central venous pressure
    • Respiratory mechanics
    • Blood gas analysis
  • Maintenance of anaesthesia with total intravenous techniques when appropriate
  • Full crash facilities including defibrillation in theatres and in ICU
